Tipping vehicles reliably mounted without grease and rust

Profile

Wye Cylinder Engineering is a family-run company based in Herefordshire that has been manufacturing high quality hydraulic cylinders for a wide range of industries, particularly agriculture, waste management and mining, since 1969. Around fifty thousand cylinders are produced annually, a large proportion of which are customised according to customer specifications.

Problem

Wye used hydraulic cylinders in scissor lift platforms, which provide the lifting mechanism for tipper vehicles. Metal bearings were initially used in the bearing positions. Due to the damp and dirty working environment of the vehicles on construction sites or in agricultural operations, malfunctions occurred time and again because the bearings rusted. The developers were therefore looking for an alternative that was corrosion-free, easy to install and cost-effective.

Solution

The metal bearings were quickly replaced with lubrication-free igutex TX1 heavy-duty bearings, which are extremely wear-resistant and dimensionally stable thanks to their long-fibre winding design. The solid lubricants contained in the plastic mean that no additional lubrication is required, eliminating the usual maintenance requirements and the worry of corrosion.
